This is a tough event, but the hospitality given so freely by the South Wales group makes this event un-missable. The weather was perfect, the views outstanding and nearly worth all those relentless climbs. Food beyond your wildest dreams on a challenge walk at Cwmcarn checkpoint and at the finish. Thank-you for the memorable [still aching] day out

If the Valleys 100 is anything like yesterdays Where Ravens Dare then it’ll be a superb weekend. The whole day; scenery, hospitality, checkpoints were wonderful and the food was lush!

Thanks to all South Wales group who organised, manned check points and made the lovely food.

Stunning in a word. One of the very best routes & events on the calendar. Perfect weather, distant views across the valleys to the Brecon Beacons, umpteen other hilltops & the Severn; remote lofty hill walking with plenty of ascent & descent in splendid isolation on good paths & superb South Wales hospitality. Almost 27 miles with 5800 ft ascent. Gourmet sandwiches in Cwmcarn: smoked salmon & cream cheese, corned beef & onion relish amongst many others. At the finish delicious Welsh broth then a range of cakes to even rival the Harden Hard’un: raspberry, lemon & yogurt, chocolate, lemon drizzle, coffee & walnut to name a few! A taster near the start / finish into a small part ( in reverse ) of the Valleys 100 route, which if WRD & it’s sister event the Rhondda Rollercoaster are anything to go by will be a superb visual delight. Thanks to all at South Wales group for two excellent events this year.

Just a line to say that the 15.5 mile route was a fine walk on Saturday. It was a good opportunity to explore a different corner of the South East Wales Valleys. A well co-ordinated event and the catering really does live up to its reviews – the diversity of sandwich fillings! Aiming to do the 26 mile option next year.

Thank you for all your hard work on Saturday 5th. We enjoyed what is one of the toughest LDWA run/walks. Scenery is fantastic and the weather was kind to us. The food was excellent and the company great.

Just a quick note to thank you and the South Wales LDWA for a brilliant event yesterday, which showed off the LDWA at its very best. Very smooth and relaxed organisation (at least from the outside) starting with the car parking, through the check-in and send-off, at all the checkpoints with their friendly encouragement and just-right food and refreshment, to the excellent soup and cakes at the finish. We did the inaugural Where Ravens Dare but missed the next two, so we were very happy to return this year and find it as welcoming and enjoyable as we remembered – a big thank you to everyone involved. Our son accompanied us this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. He remarked that from a social point of view it would have been nice to see some younger people walking (a sore point as I recall from the 2011 AGM), and made the suggestion that it needs to tweet about what it is doing – he thinks that the immediacy of that medium can get a ball rolling very quickly. Perhaps something to consider – maybe make the (70?) unfilled places look like a limited opportunity the day before the event, rather than a poor take-up of what ought to be seen as a really sought-after top-quality challenge event. Thanks again for all the hard work and we look forward to the next WRD. And good luck with the 100 next year.

Thanks so much for organising such a brilliant event! It was all managed very smoothly, those manning the checkpoints were very friendly, always up for a chat and the food was brilliant. I am a special friend of the crackers with cream cheese and smoked salmon. The route was cracking too, the best of the Welsh Valleys, views over to the Brecons, as far as the Mendips and Minehead, not to speak of the Bristol Channel. And all was topped off with homemade soup – again served (!) with a smile – and homemade cakes. That they were homemade not only adds another nice touch, you can taste it too! So thanks to everyone.
