The Three Circles of Machen provided entrants with a range of options to enjoy the scenic beauty of South Wales eastern valleys.
Three different circular routes of 8, 10 and 12 miles offered a choice of seven different combinations: 8, 10, 12, 18, 20, 22 or 30 miles.
- The 8 mile ‘northern’ loop uses part of the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway path en route to Mynydd Machen.
- The 10 mile ‘eastern’ loop mainly follows the Rhymney River Circular path
- The 12 mile ‘western’ loop visits Rudry Common, Graig Lysfaen and Ruperra Castle.
Tea and toast were provided at the start, light refreshments at the central checkpoint after each loop (Machen Village Hall) and a hot meal at the finish.
This is the second instalment of South Wales LDWA’s ‘Power of Three’ series – entrants will be awarded a certificate for attendance at each annual event and a cloth badge for participating in all three events over the three years.
